Colophon

Pegasus News makes use of many of the tubes that comprise the Internets.

We built the site using a custom-modified version of the Ellington content management system. Ellington, and almost everything else we have was built using Django, an outstanding web framework for the Python programming language.

The Daily You™ is magic.

Our site is hosted by Layered Technologies. WebSideStory measures our traffic. We serve our advertising using AdSpeed. We register our domains at GoDaddy. BitKinex is the WebDAV client we use to manage our media server. We back up our media using Amazon S3 via s3sync.rb.

The original site design was put together by Wilson Miner. Anything you like, thank him. Anything you hate, blame Mike for monkeying with it after the fact.

Soylent Green is made from people.

Tacoda is our provider of national advertising.

We mostly use the FireFox 2.0 browser and recommend that you do the same. However, we try to keep the site compliant with as many browsers as possible. Whenever we want our browsers to do magical things that God did not intend browsers to do, Greasemonkey makes it happen.

We use Flash sparingly, specifically to run our radio player. All video files that we host are in Quicktime format. When we edit audio, we use Audacity. We edit video in Adobe Premiere.

We use The Form Assembly to make many of our forms.

Our most beautiful icons were provided by Mark James as part of the glorious silk famfam set.

That spinning thingy that annoys you while you wait for your magic bits to load is provided courtesy of Andrew B. Davidson.

The voices in our heads are powered by Cepstral

We grudgingly use Photoshop and Microsoft Office.

All maps on the site are Google Maps. Google Talk allows us to go for days on end without speaking to each other. We use Gmail and Google Reader to manage our massive mashups of local content sources. We use FeedDigest and FeedWhip to create those mashed-up feeds. FeedWhip, in particular, rocks the house. And Greasemonkey helped.

On the rare occasions we peek at the scary world outside the 75XXX and 76XXX zip codes, we use Topix. Topix also provides the news feeds for the top public and private companies with pages on the site.

Pegasus News proudly serves Pepsi products.

We use Dell, HP, Compaq and Apple computers.

Office furnishings from Ikea

We only spend and accept United States Currency. We do not accept wooden nickels, but magic beans are negotiable in a pinch.

Today

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
