Allen has written many original songs, holding a contemporary bluegrass and country style to each one. These songs are written and performed from the heart, and have received airplay on both country and Americana radio stations throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Allen is a member of the Fort Worth Songwriters Association, International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and the Central Texas Bluegrass Association (CTBA). Known for their style of showmanship, Allen's group "The Mountain Showmen" are truly a must see for the whole family. Group members Bill Lloyd (banjo), Doug Taylor (bass & backup vocals), Justin Farrow (fiddle & backup vocals) perform the legendary sounds of The Showmen. With their rhinestone suits and Branson style comedy, Allen Hurt & The Mountain Showmen are "The Show Group Of Tomorrow."
