American Werewolf Academy is a band based on the unashamed principles of pop. Pulling influences from 60s proto punk, 70s power pop, post punk and bubblegum rock, as well as Cheap Trick, XTC, Robyn Hitchcock, Roky Erikson, and Guided By Voices, AWA makes music that celebrates the ideas of catchy hooks, power chords, and good times.
AWA is composed of four guys who live in Dallas, TX. Tony hits the drums, Noah plays a collection of old beat-up basses, Aaron plays guitar and sings with a scraggly voice, and Mike (Aaron's old partner in Robot Monster Weekend) sings and plays guitar as well as keyboards.
The motivating force behind the band is to play rock anthems and have a good time. It's rock & roll - it's supposed to be fun.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
