Sound description: Rush tribute band
RIYL: To believe in the freedom of music; that glittering prizes and endless compromises have shattered the illusion of integrity
Formed: 2005
City: Frisco, TX
Web site: http://www.anthemonline.net
In the spring of 2004, Jason Robert, John Walker, and Brantley Allen joined forces with drummer Robert Stanovich as Distant Early Warning. The band's first public appearance was a four-song opening set at the Texas Tea Room for the Rush 30th Anniversary Pre Show party, with Little Green Men and Tornado Alley. They next appeared at Firewater opening for Back in Black, a popular AC/DC tribute act. The crowd really enjoyed the band, and the guys became convinced that they were onto something.
In summer 2005, the band made a personnel change, brought in David Patton on drums, and changed the name of the band to Anthem. In addition to being a very solid drummer, David brings the additional elements of electronic and auxiliary percussion, which were the final piece of the puzzle.
If you enjoy the music of Rush and you want to see it performed right - as close to the original as possible - then you need to check out Anthem.
