With an exclusive style of his own, Arlington Jones creates a work of art every time he touches the piano. He designs a musical canvas with strokes of creativity, genius, and beauty. No matter how old or new the composition, he has the gift to captivate listeners of all ages. Not only is he pleasing to listen to but also exhilarating to watch! Right through each note, Arlington exudes energy from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet!
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1973, he moved to Dallas with his parents in the late 70s. He began studying piano at age eight â his extraordinary talent and great passion for his music soon blossomed. Watching him play now, no one could guess that he told his parents he wanted to stop taking lessons after the first week! However, with encouragement, he persisted.
In the early years, Arlington started playing gospel music and arranging for choirs in church -- the perfect training ground to boost his new techniques. He took drum lessons and studied percussion for a while, which helped develop a sound foundation for diverse rhythms and grooves.
Knowing his purpose, Arlington expanded his skills by attaining a bachelor's and master's degree in music, composition, arranging, performance, theory, and jazz studies. His music influences include Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Erroll Garner, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder. He has shared the stage with remarkable musicians Wayman Tisdale, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, David “Fathead” Newman, Red Holloway, Frank Foster, Louie Bellson, Dee Dee Warwick, Tom Braxton and more.
Between tour dates, Arlington serves as a music professor at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas. He teaches and mentors aspiring musicians by combining his education and experience. Being on the road provides a constant and fresh outlook on the music industry and helps him relate effectively to the students. It was encounters with educating others that led Arlington to write his first book of piano duets, At Play, published by Neil A. Kjos Publishing Company.
Since then, he has been commissioned by Kjos as a music newsletter columnist and songwriter for future print music publications. Arlington is involved in a variety of music organizations, including the Sammons Center For The Arts Jazz Ensemble and Dallas Jazz Orchestra that sponsor community music events to help promote jazz appreciation. Periodically, he visits with youth in schools and organized clinics to heighten their awareness for jazz history and music theory. Arlington is known for his lively and interactive approach where he fuses lecture, piano improvisation, and audience participation. His contributions have led to several awards and acknowledgements such as Excellence In Teaching Award in 2001 and Sammons Jazz Artist of The Year in 2002.
In recent years, Arlington has distinguished himself as a successful independent artist and producer under his label, Zamaria Records and with his band, The Arlington Jones Trio. His debut recording, The Author And The Source, garnered national recognition for its infectious and innovative sound. Fans worldwide highly anticipated the new releases in 2005, Move The Heart and Arlington Jones Solo Sessions: Peace That Passes All Understanding. Arlington's storybook tunes balance a gumbo mixture of jazz, funk, latin, and blues. He is well known for promoting some dynamic concert performances featuring his band and other great musicians. With some of the most unpredictable and high-spirited melodies and arrangements, the music Arlington plays possesses the power to take any listener on an unforgettable journey and always makes them want more! He is devoted to creating music that will speak to the hearts of people around the world -- music that will evoke joy, hope, peace, and love for all generations!
