Formed in mid-2004, Dallas quartet Auto Escape has quickly become one of the most exciting bands on the scene. The young members of Auto Escape share a drive to create ground-breaking music that unites and inspires people, unconstrained by genre cliques and fads. “We come from different places musically and that tension is what makes it so exciting– it forces us to always rethink and invent new ways to approach our songs,” says lead singer Donnie DeBoer. His soulful, alluring voice and distinctive guitar style are complemented by the sonic textures of keyboardist Grant Pittman, who plays vintage electric pianos, synthesizers, and an array of other instruments. Bassist Matthew Melton and drummer Nathie DeBoer blend influences ranging from jazz to indie/punk rock into an explosive, groove-heavy foundation for the songs. Auto Escape acknowledges a wide array of influences while continually pushing forward into new musical territory.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
