The Bat Mastersons

Originally formed in 1989, The Bat Mastersons began their rise in the Dallas music scene by performing their first live show at the then infamous dance club, The Starck. By 1990, the band had established themselves as one of the premier live acts in Dallas, playing to packed houses on a regular basis in the Deep Ellum area. In 1991, they signed with the then fledgling record label, Dragon Street Records and entered the studio.

The release of their self-titled debut was an instant success, breaking into the College Music Journal's top 50, the top 10 on French radio and eventually earning the band first place in the Best Alternative Act category of the Dallas Observer Music Awards in 1991. Their single "Wishing Well" was in constant rotation on local airwaves and was featured as the opening cut on the KDGE-FM Dallas compilation, Tales From the Edge Vol. 1.

Following the success of their CD, the band embarked on a national tour, playing with acts like the Spin Doctors, the Call and the Rave Ups. The tour included shows at such notable venues as Woody's in New York City, the Forty Watt club in Athens, Georgia, and Tippatina's in New Orleans. The band rounded out that initial tour with a performance co-headlining the first KDGE-FM Birthday Bash along with local heroes, the Reverend Horton Heat and San Diego's the Origin.

In 1993, the band's single "Do You Love Me?" was featured on Tales From the Edge Vol. 7 and also received considerable airplay in the southern U.S. market. The following year, after several personnel changes, the remaining members (Tim Holiday being the only original left at this point) decided to disband. In early 1998, original founding members once again joined forces, playing many superb shows locally as well as around the U.S. But as recording sessions proceeded for a new album in August '99, internal friction involving both musical and personal issues once again arose, leading to Rex Ewing's departure to Flickerstick, thus ending the band.

In 2005, core and founding members Tim Holliday and Byron Lord, along with David DiPietro re-formed the Bat Mastersons. Craig Reeves (ex-Novachrome lead guitarist) rejoined the band for his second tour of duty in July 2006.
