No stranger to the live music scene, Becky Middleton has been singing and playing piano for such bands as Theophany, the Jeff Berry Band, and the Tim Ward Band over the last five years, as well as opening for such artists as the David Crowder Band. Now venturing out on her own as an intimate singer-songwriter, Becky’s artistry mixes folk, soul and pop in a moving, eclectic style true to her personality. With an honest and emotional delivery of songs about love, loss, pain, life and faith, she writes simply what she knows with transparency balanced by hope. Becky’s powerful, yet lulling, voice is reminiscent of Shawn Colvin, while her songwriting traces the thoughtful and confessional explorations of influential songwriters like Patty Griffin and Joni Mitchell.
A classically-trained vocalist, Becky’s vocal abilities have allowed her to sing backup and harmonies with a wide variety of vocal artists, which has, in turn, spilled over into her own creativity. This 26 year-old Dallas native is self-described as a musician who wants to make exceptional art with intelligent, no-fluff songwriting that strikes a chord with her listeners, causing them to not only feel something deep but receive something new.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
