Celena Rae is no stranger to hard work and determination. To hear her mother tell it, Celena was born to be a star. She says from day one Celena could walk into a room and own it. She began singing, as most children do, in school plays and musicals. At six years old, after receiving a standing ovation for her rendition of an Ella Fitzgerald song, her undeniable talent was revealed and it was then she began to perfect her craft.
At nineteen, Celena began singing with Linder and Brock, a Dallas/Fort Worth based country/classic rock cover band touring around the nation in schools, performance halls, and fairs.
Celena's first big break came at 23, when she was cast on Dick Clark’s version of Star Search, Your Big Break. Celena was crowned the grand prize winner after her performance singing Martina McBride's “A Broken Wing.”
As a result of winning Your Big Break, Celena was granted a recording contract with Lyric Street Records in Nashville. After working with Lyric Street, Celena collaborated with the award winning producer/song writer Dan Huff on a production deal with his company Terecel Music.
In the summer of 2004, Celena emerged onto the scene again by auditioning to be on American Idol. Out of 103,000 people that auditioned, Celena made it to the final 10 girls in the entire competition. Having been on television in front of 35 million people has allowed Celena to take the next steps in her career as a musician and entertainer.
Currrently, Celena is back in Dallas, and pursuing local speaking engagements, appearances, and performances. Since her success on American Idol, Celena has continued to perform at multiple venues in front of large audiences. She has performed with some of the top names in country music, including Brad Paisley, Andy Griggs, Sugarland, Miranda Lambert, Tracy Lawrence, Los Lonely Boys, Sara Evans and Pat Green. Celena also served as the national anthemist and game hostess for the Dallas Stars for the 2005-2006 season, and appeared on a Christmas compilation CD titled Totally Awesome Christmas with artists such as Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, Ali Lohan, Rascal Flatts and Shedaisy.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
