Chase Gassaway was conceived in 1985. Since then he has done many things. Those things generally have included writing, arranging and producing music. He is currently finishing his BM in composition and will be getting his masters at the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked with many Dallas natives, either playing or writing for Becky Middleton, Johnny Lloyd Rollins, Philip Creamer and Brad Miles.

Chase released an EP in 2005 called Black As My Coffee, featuring an array of original tunes with a chamber orchestra and rhythm section. Since then, Chase has been playing a variety of acoustic shows both with guitars and piano, but usually is seen as a session player on electric guitar.

As a composer, Chase mainly writes for orchestra, but likes to use the singer/songwriter platform to express some of his simpler ideas. His sound is weathered and smooth, but often has the tendency to become quite dismantled and spacey during some parts of a set.

Today

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
