In 1995, upon the demise of local Dallas based death metal band Necrocide, drummer Brad Fincher and guitarist Braxton Henry (both of Necrocide) along with former me-at-us vocalist Wayne Knupp set out to push the boundaries of what brutal death metal was all about.

Wayne decided to move back to his hometown of Chicago and Brad moved to San Antonio to get his education. Months later, both Wayne and Brad moved back to the Dallas area and decided it was time to form what would become the most abhorrent form of musical abomination to ever exist in the history of underground death metal. However, Braxton Henry had in the meantime already formed a band known as DeadIndustry. Luckily Wayne knew a guy who he called "the sickest guitarist ever" named Brain who he used to play with a few years before. Brain was playing a style that was uncompromising compared to a lot of other guitarists in the genre. His intensity was unmatched, period. So after finally contacting him, Brain was introduced to the band, with whom he clicked instantaneously.

Soon the trio put out a 2-song promo, which featured "Shroud Of Encryption" and "Festering Vomitous Mass." Several months later, with the additions of guitarist Kevin Clark and bassist Mike Majewski, Devourment recorded one more song, "Choking On Bile." The song was added to the 2-song promo that resulted in the 1997 demo released by Corpsegristle Records that helped the band gain such a tremendous fanbase. The demo would be entitled Impaled. With this line-up, Devourment were a complete outfit. Or so they thought.

Wayne Knupp decided to leave the band due to some internal problems leading up to and during a trip to New York. Brain phoned Wayne and fired him from the band as soon as Wayne returned after the band left him in New York. The band had a hard time finding a new vocalist who compared with Wayne's brutal vocal assault. Their choice would ultimately be guitarist/vocalist Ruben Rosas, of local band Detrimental and also a long time Devourment fan. Before joining the band, Ruben often could be spotted at Devourment shows in the crowd checking the brutal grooves from a fans point of view. Ruben, of course, was heavily influenced by Wayne.

The band landed a record deal in 1999 with United Guttural Records and released their debut CD, Molesting The Decapitated. Then the unthinkable happened. After playing possibly their sickest show ever with such bands as Macabre, Deaden, Cephalic Carnage and Fleshgrind, Ruben was arrested as a fugitive from justice. Ironically this was also the same night that Molesting The Decapitated was released. Not knowing what to do, the band decided it was time to part ways. But due to the overwhelming response from fans worldwide, Devourment reformed minus Brain and adding Braxton Henry again on guitars and none other than Wayne Knupp on vocals.

Together they would record one new song entitled "Babykiller," which would be released along with the 3 songs from the Impaled demo and the 8 songs from Molesting The Decapitated. The release would obviously be called 1.3.8. No shows would be played though and eventually the band all but faded out.

Ruben was eventually released from his 2 1/2 year incarceration and tried to rejuvenate the band. He eventually recruited various new musicians, played a few shows, but things never really materialized.

A few months went by and Ruben, original bassist Mike Majewski, and original vocalist Wayne Knupp began talking about possibly ressurecting the beast that is Devourment. These original band members decided that if a second CD was to be recorded, it would have to be done by key original members or nothing. The long awaited second album, Butcher the Weak was released in 2005.

Wayne subsequently left the band and drummer Eric Park and bassist Chris Andrews joined.
