Award-winning songwriter Doug Bryan is a solo artist formerly of nineties alternative pop/rock band Big Boss Groove.
When he was a wee lad his only-child status provided him with countless hours of introspective glee in his room full of toys, 45s, action figures, comic books, and the occasional girly magazine. His was a world full of Beatles, G.I. Joes, Major Matt Masons, Batmen, Strange Change Machines, Partridges, Bradys, Hot Wheels, and Lucky Charms. Here he developed and nurtured his own brand of pop culture awareness (patent pending) that morphed wildly into an insatiable passion for music and film. He started playing the drums at age 5 (first kit: a Ringo Starr Liverpool Trap Set) and could play "Happy Jack" by the Who by age 8. He took up guitar at 14, after the realization/revelation that girls really liked guitar players, and never looked back.
As an adult he began a successful career editing movies and short films and met a lot of famous people. He likes that sort of thing. As the nineties dawned his band Big Boss Groove was voted "Best Alternative Band" by the Dallas Observer and Doug was voted "Best Songwriter". That was fun. They made two albums, placed several songs in movies, rocked (and also rolled), and twice came about as close as you can to getting signed to a major label (missed it by that much). Even after the mid-nineties demise of his swingin' combo, Doug never stopped writing songs in a shark-like search for the perfect pop nugget. He now owns a really fun post-production business called Post-op (www.post-op.com) where he edits commercials and stuff, composes music for film and television, writes songs constantly, and wastes a lot of time on Youtube. He still plays shows both with his singer-songwriter wife Jill and with his band The Mad Lovers. Bryan crafts smart pop songs that will stick to the roof of your brain like Milk Duds for the mind.
