Band History
1997: On a middle school fieldtrip to the Dallas Aquarium, Eric Michener made good on a dare to pluck a fish from one of the tanks and swallow it whole, earning him a spot on the nightly news, two weeks of in school suspension, and the shameful moniker “Fishboy,” which haunted him throughout the rest of his formal education.
Tormented by the unfettered ostracism of his classmates, Fishboy receded into his bedroom, and emerged two years later as North Texas’ preeminent (and youngest) lo-fi genius. After self-releasing countless recordings throughout high school, Austin’s Business Deal records (Gene Defcon, The Prima Donnas) released Zip Bang Boom in August of 2003 to massive critical acclaim. Fishboy's name began to appear all over Dallas’ alternative press. He was asked to appear on 102.1 FM’s #1 rated alternative radio show, The Adventure Club, and was nominated for Album of the Year in The Dallas Observer’s “Best of 2003” issue.
But Fishboy knew he could do better. He moved from his native Colleyville, Texas, to Denton, recruited Slap Bracelet, Sweatpants and High-C to round out the group, and rather than spend time and energy promoting Zip Bang Boom, they chose to dive headlong into the process of recording a new album. Employing the production skills of Eniac’s Mark Sonnabaum and enlisting the help of comrade Corn Mo, as well as members of the late Little Grizzly, The Baptist Generals and Okkerville River, Little D (tentatively named after its birth place) is a homespun masterpiece, more focused than its predecessor, while incorporating a broad new spectrum of instrumentation and arrangement.
