Sound description: Funky melting pot of blues, rock, electronica, soul, dance, and hip hop
RIYL: Parliament-Funkadelic
Formed: 1998
City: Dallas, TX

Founded in 1998, FruitCake-SuperBeing have been quietly establishing themselves as a satisfying hiccup spreading through the teXas rock and roll scene.
An ode to blues, rock, electronica, soul, dance, and hip hop, FruitCake-SuperBeing is a melting pot of those genres using samples, guitar, bass, live drums, harmonica, keyboards, and energetic vocals to style their sound. On stage this group puts across a persona that accompanies the music with characters straight out of a tale of barbeques and redemption in the South.
Lyrically, FruitCake preaches the 3rd person view of everyday life with the stamina and persona of the holiest of tent evangelists. SuperBeing's tailored blues riffs take traditional guitar chords on a new slide while creating the simplest of hookable melodies. Sonically the band shakes hands with electronica dance and hip-hop, allowing dash (spelled “-“) to keep the limpest bodies in constant motion. Hum MuthaBucka lays down the hot sauce bass and Geaux licks down the rhythm to round out the percussive tendencies. The addition of the sparkling voice of Sistah Wax in ’03 brought on a new layer for the once-all-man band.
Since the release of their debut CD, FruitCake-SuperBeing have propagated their music across the state of teXas winning over audiences with delightful shock and memories of good times. Now with the latest album for 2005 completed, DevelopMental TeXas How-Now, they are prepared to light the fires once more.

Vans Warped Tour 2009 Warped just began -- Dallas is the fifth stop -- so Bad Religion, NOFX et al will still be fresh. This year, they've got fewer stages and longer sets (40 minutes instead of 30). Get there early for Colorado duo 3OH!3 and Brit punkers Gallows (pictured, credit Jay West). More info
