Sound description: Funky New Orleans-style brass band with hip-hop cadences
RIYL: Dirty Dozen Brass Band, ReBirth Brass Band
Formed: 2002
City: Denton, TX
Web site: http://www.innercityallstars.com
The brass band was created back in 2002 by band leader Calvin Sexton, who attended the University of North Texas, where he earned a degree in Music. To support his education, Calvin relocated to California where he played for Lady Bo, female guitarist for Bo Diddley, and worked on cruise lines as a musician. The island music he heard influenced his songwriting and helped develop ideas for a youthful and spirited band.
Since its inception, the band has received a standing ovation at the Apollo Theater in New York City; performed at the Denton Jazz and Arts Festival, Fort Worth Main Street Festival, and Taste of New Orleans in San Antonio; and performed at such notable venues such as the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas, TX and Luna Live in San Antonio. The band has shared the stage with ReBirth Brass Band, Brave Combo, Mingo Fishtrap, Bowling For Soup, and South FM.
The Inner City All Stars raise the roof with classics and original numbers that will take the crowd from their seats to the dance floor, inciting a wild dance party.

Friday Night Films with AFI Dallas "If you build it, they will come" ... could've described Ray Nasher's vision for NorthPark and his sculpture center, or Lenier Temerlin and Michael Cain's desire to start a local AFI festival. The two team up for an all-American screening of Field of Dreams in the Dallas Arts District. Or there's always fireworks. More info
