Jamal Mathis is a pianist, composer and producer who grew up in Dallas. He began taking an interest in music at age 10, and when his skills and repertoire increased by age 16, he began composing. That love for music led him to study jazz and music composition at Cedar Valley College, where he earned a Certificate of Completion for Performing Musician in Commercial Music in 2002. He transferred to Andrews University in Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music in piano performance in 2006.

Mathis won an ASCAPlus award in 2008.
