After playing in several local Dallas bands Jonathan, Kansas, Nick, and Jordan formed Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights. Since recording the full length album Hot Trottin' with Dallas' own sound engineer, Chris Bell, the band has opened for major acts such as Erykah Badu, Heart, Deep Purple, Cross Canadian Ragweed, The Arc Angels, Chicago, Kool the Gang, and many others. Recently the Northern Lights have ventured out of Dallas playing on regional and national tours opening for Stoney LaRue and O. A. R.
In 2009, the band opened several dates for Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
