Jones

Genre: R&B / Soul

Formed: 1998

City: Dallas, TX

Jones was formed in 1998 in Los Angeles by Jason Michael, Mick Tinsley, Chris Gubisch, Lou Canakes, and Bobby Wintersteen. Inspired by old R&B and new funk, their style was unique to the L.A. scene. Jones continued to play to West coast audiences until 2003, when Jason returned to Texas and revamped his lineup. The new sound adds a greater influence of Blues and Soul. The Jones members are well connected in the Dallas music community and like to experiment with sound. Often, they surprise audiences by including guest performers on violin, piano, horns, and other instruments.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
