Manny the Martyr is a refreshing, energetic five-piece rock/alternative band effortlessly fusing reggae, punk, ska, funk and metal to create their signature sound.
Manny the Martyr was formed in Dallas in 2011 originally to be a cover band by Mikey Ubben (Fireal, Cultura,The Effinays) on lead guitar, Jayson Vaughn (Mad Maurice, Cultura) on bass, Brad Green (Fireal, Cultura, The Effinays) on rhythm guitar, Joel Simka (Redshift, Cultura, The Effinays) on percussion, and Ed Chaney (Somsara, Cultura, Dead Flowers) on drum kit.
As the months progressed into this musical experiment, it became evident that writing music, instead covering others' music, had become the band's true passion. Realizing that their hearts were in writing and performing original music, they decided to change direction altogether in 2012.
Jake Cravens answered an online wanted ad for a vocalist and came to try out in mid 2012. The chemistry was instant and he joined the band that night as lead singer for the band.
In late 2012, Ed Chaney decided to part ways and Joel Simka moved behind the drum kit. Thus, Manny the Martyr was officially born.
Manny the Martyr played their first gig in January 2013 at The Lounge and found great reception immediately and was asked back the same night! They put on an extremely energetic live show with amazing stage presence and crowd control; commonly jumping all around the stage as they play. To be at a Manny the Martyr show is truly a delight for both one's eyes and ears.
Manny the Marty has been making waves and gaining buzz in the local DFW music scene since Day One. And they are just getting started. Stay tuned...
In December 2013, Manny the Martyr released their debut full length album, "Brighter Sun". This 11 track album is available for limited time to download and stream at soundcloud.com.
