Sound description: Jazz harp and vocal duo
RIYL: Frank Sanatra, Fred Astair, Judy Garland, Billy Holiday, Fats Waller, Harpo Marx
Formed: 2004
City: Grapevine, TX
Geoffrey Ricketts started his career as a rock musician. Next he found himself performing at a renaissance faire, where he discovered a love for folk harp. This led him to a formal education in music. After opening The Geoffrey Harp School now located in Grapevine, Texas, he met Matt Woodbury as a harp student. Matt has studied music most of his life and now sings with the Dallas Opera as well as teaches beginner harp at The Geoffrey Harp School. The duo has performed at The Food Pantry Concert Series at Camelot by the Lake several times as well as various church coffeehouses.
Although Geoffrey is a classically trained professional harpist and Matt is a classically trained professional opera singer, when they perform together they play their true love: exploring The Great American Songbook using harp and vocals in a very unique style. They play jazz from blues to show-tunes in the "Champagne Jazz" style of Fred Astair and Harpo Marx, never changing the gender of the original lyric.
