The Michael Klein Band is a powerhouse of Texas music. Originally from New England, Michael left his small hometown of Belgrade, Maine and relocated to South Florida. His voice and performance in local cover bands soon caught the attention of songwriter/guitarist Wesley B. Wright (Miami Sound Machine) and producer Donnie McGoodwin. Michael and Donnie started writing together the day they met in late 2000.
In early summer 2003, Michael and Donnie moved to Texas to form the band and take advantage of the growing music scene. The band recorded their first CD, Labor of Love, at Pedernales Studios (Willie Nelson) in Austin, Texas in 2004. The band spent the next eight months touring in support of the release, and through their growing grass roots fan base they soon received attention outside the Texas music scene. With shows reaching from New York City through Kentucky and back to Texas again, MKB shared dates with Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Deryl Dodd, and the Music Mafia, showing their ability to connect with different listeners. On September 11, 2004, Michael released his first single titled “9/11 – Then and Now,” a song dedicated to the victims and survivors of the NYC tragedy. The band went to New York City on 9/11 where they gave out 1,000 CDs at the memorial service and played acoustic sets at local firehouses for all the firefighters.
As 2004 came to a close, an overwhelming demand for a second release became too loud to ignore. So, during the winter the two songwriters (Klein/McGoodwin) worked up the songs for a new recording, Stamp of Fate, which was released in 2006. The powerful melodies and passionate lyrics have led the Michael Klein Band to be compared to artists ranging from the Black Crowes to John Hiatt.
