Miles McConnell, originally from Titusville, Florida, began playing guitar at the age of five with his father as his first teacher. Miles then studied with Dr. Mark Switzer for a number of years before attending Florida Southern College and has participated in master classes with such world-renowned guitarists as Pepe Romero, Benjamin Verdery, David Tanenbaum, and members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
While at Florida Southern, Miles performed frequently both on campus and throughout the Lakeland community as a solo guitarist, with the FSC Jazz Ensemble, and with Gian Carlo Monacelli in their classical guitar-violin duo, Duo Cantabile.
In February 2005, Miles performed at the American String Teachers Association National Conference in Reno, Nevada, with Mr. Monacelli in the duo and as a soloist with orchestra. Currently Miles is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of North Texas, pursuing his Master of Music Performance in Guitar with Professor Tom Johnson.
Miles' career goal is to teach music at the university level, with classical guitar as his specialization. Other musical interests include music history, jazz guitar, and the guitar as a part of the chamber ensemble.
