Paper Airline
- Sound Description:
- Power pop/indie rock. The Police meets The Promise Ring.
Founded 1999, based in Dallas, TX
Paper Airline was formed by Wes Solem and Tex Sirisawat in 1999 under the name "A Foot Ahead." Ironing out the lineup and sound in 2002, the band was featured on D/FW compilation/concert series Buzz-Oven Volume 6 with a then-blossoming Bowling For Soup. A full length album, Six Eighteen, was released in 2003, followed by an EP, Technicolor and Arrest, in 2004. A Foot Ahead shared bills with bands such as The Anniversary, The Start, Bayside, Cruiserweight and Duvall.
Upon receiving advice and recommendation from friend and [DARYL] frontman Dylan Silvers, A Foot Ahead hired producer Stuart Sikes, who had just finished work on [DARYL]'s "Ohio," and whose resume also notably included work on breakout albums from White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Jets To Brazil and The Promise Ring.
Thanks to sessions with Sikes and a consistent rehearsal and performance schedule, the band's sound began taking new shape. It was then decided a new name should signify the change in sound. Thus, Paper Airline was chosen, symbolizing organized escape from everyday routine with an everyday object.
