The Plano Civic Chorus, Inc., chartered in 1973, is a non-profit organization that promotes choral singing in North Texas. Three or four major concerts are presented every year. Programs feature a variety of choral literature, from major choral works to contemporary favorites. The chorus numbers approximately 95 members, who represent a variety of musical backgrounds and professional occupations.
The Chorus has sung at the Texas Choral Directors Association Convention and has performed such works as Mozart's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center. In October 1995, the PCC performed with the National Symphony Chamber Orchestra (Washington, D.C.) as part of Celebrate Plano 1995: An International Arts Festival. Nine members of the Chorus were selected to participate in the first-ever National Community Honor Choir held at the 1997 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. In the spring of 1998, PCC celebrated its 25th anniversary season with a Gala Concert featuring former directors and singers and the world premier of a specially commissioned piece, The Sacrament of Light by Michael Cox. Members of the chorus also performed the Mozart Requiem in New York City at Carnegie Hall as a part of the Texas Festival Chorus.
The Chorus performs at a number of community and holiday events throughout the year. This includes annual appearances at the Plano Balloon Festival, the Plano Dickens in Historic Downtown celebration, and Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum.
