Preston Grey is a four-piece progressive acoustic rock combo from Dallas. Formed in late December of 2002, they have gained an impressive following in a relatively short amount of time. The key is perhaps their approach to writing and performing in general: engaging music performed without pretense. Their clean style is immediately pleasing to the ear, due in part to their use of minimal instrumentation (vocals, acoustic 12-string guitar, bass and drums). As a trio, each performer has space to step forward from or slip back into the mix by balancing rhythmic complexity as well as dynamics. Solos of a conventional sense are all but absent - replaced by moving melodic lines passed from musician to musician. The result is an evolving soundscape that immediately captures your ear and continues to hold on tight.
