The band had been a project held in the minds of Ransom Rhodes and Philip Holveck for a while, and ultimately came together when the two joined after parting ways from former projects. Ransom and Phil wanted to use each other's acoustic style guitar playing to make a good rock sound. Instead of waiting for the pieces to fall together, the two booked a show at a local club six weeks in the future to put the pressure on and force them from an idea to a realization. Once they put themselves in the boiling pot, the two had a chance meeting with drummer Matt Bell and the group was complete.
