Singer/Songwriter Ryan Cabrera's musical career was never really planned. Previously a lead singer for the defunct groups Caine and Rubic's Groove, Cabrera got his big break when his brother purchased a block of studio time for him for his birthday. Impressed with Ryan's sound, the engineer offered to record a full album for Cabrera free of charge. This good fortune resulted in Cabrera's first album Elm Street, which gained popularity among the teen crowd, earned him a contract with EMI Music Publishing and eventually scored him a deal with Atlantic Records. His debut disc with Atlantic, Take It All Away, was released in 2004 and featured production and songwriting by Johnny Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls fame. In 2005, Cabrera released his sophomore recording You Stand Watching.
