There are cliché reasons that a band unites, some having to do with the alignment of the stars, and others having to do with perfectly fitting pieces that contribute to a complicated puzzle. None of these have anything to do with the formation of The Salutation. When common ideas are just as abundant as musical conflicts, the compromise allows all sides to win. Although arguably more than a handful of sideshow freaks, it would be appropriate to coin The Salutation somewhat of an audio circus, with their lyrical acrobatics and taming of growling synthesizers.
There is a longing that lives within an artist to become part of something monumental. The opportunity is rare but easily recognized. When the opportunity is presented outside of one's comfort zone, the decision is more difficult than expected. Each member of The Salutation has worked to make his musical mark by being involved with familiar projects, whether in more traditional rock bands or performing in hip hop groups. After uniting, it was clearly apparent that what was being created by the band surpassed and had more potential than any member's previous musical ventures.
Any band claiming to be original is often laughed at, or at the very least, has seen its share of rolled eyes. Those same rolled eyes become wide open when they realize that hip hop influenced rock doesn't have to be related to nu-metal, and that trying to create a new sound doesn't have to be a strange science experiment. The Salutation frequently frustrates those who find it necessary to place a label on everything. It doesn't matter if you don't know what to call it as long as it rocks.
The Salutation was introduced to the world in the form of an E.P. titled When Different Becomes Dangerous. With this CD they were able to capture a sound that was unique and still able to grasp the listener. An almost '80s undertone was alive in each song, from the dance groove instilled in "Black Tie Affair" to the pop tendencies of the anthem "Color the Town." The band loves working in the studio but prides itself upon its live show. It takes more than energy to establish their edgy performances that contain heartfelt flashy antics that could easily belong in a theatre.
In a music industry drowning in an overly abundant amount of sorrows, The Salutation presents optimism. When other acts concentrate so hard on the negative side of things, this band refuses to only share half of the story. A promising future lies ahead, as the band enjoys connecting with its fans just as much as playing the music. Behold, "The Greatest Show You've Heard," as The Salutation contains the sonic equivalent of shooting guitarists out of cannons, juggling beats, walking tightropes, and even a couple of clowns.
