Band History

The Undoing of David Wright is an event that invokes in its witnesses that same sick, desperately nauseous sensation one has upon finding oneself enjoying something very, very uncomfortable. Like a shattered mirror rearranged, The Undoing of David Wright re-inscribes with each randomly shaped shard the archetypes and themes of classical literature and film in a noisy, angular abstraction of pop song structure.

Their live show is a frantic theatrical spectacle, with players lit and dressed to the tune of battered 1920’s German Expressionist film stars. Sampled percussion groans and strikes as progressive bass lines thunder along with perfect precision, laying a tight rhythmic foundation. Wild, erratic guitar lines and rambling vocals that schizophrenically play the parts of a plethora of insane characters complete the sound. The androgynous, made-up faces of these three dandy boys contort into spastic expressions as their panicked bodies fly across the stage and into the audience like innocents possessed. With a wide range of musical influences spanning several decades of musical history, pinning a reference point on The Undoing of David Wright is impossible. Comparisons are occasionally made to artists such as the Birthday Party, Oingo Boingo and Bauhaus due to their innovative songwriting and performance qualities.
