Zayra Alvarez was born in 1978 in Puerto Rico and grew up playing music in the scenic town of Arroyo. She joined her first band at age 14, but a few years later she decided to give up serious music playing. Not long after, Alvarez moved to Dallas with a friend, which rekindled her interest in songwriting. Her talent quickly caught the eye of Dallas-based Brando Records, and it wasn't long before she recorded her first EP and went on tour with Blue October. Her first full length CD, Ruleta, was released near the end of 2004.
In 2006 she was selected as finalist for the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova. Information from the artist's site
