Ray + Price = Radio’s Ass Kicker

Posted By Blair Lovern in Keep It Country on June 12, 2006

The Great Ray Price will be in DFW in less than a month at Willie's picnic, and also at Willie's gas station thing out in Carl's Corner (not this one) the night before. Here's your basic, recent radio is run by idiots story featuring the Great Ray Price, which is pretty much true.

But I must say that on the way to Dubl- er, Dr Pepper, Texas, this past Saturday to see Billy Joe Shaver and drink a lot of the most important and powerful soft drink in America or any other land (more posts on that to come), I listened to some great radio the entire trip. Not one CD, mp3, XM, whatever's left because of three cool stations: KHYI from Frisco to Fort Worth, KTFW until Stephenville and then KEQX in and around Deepinthehearta. I don't think KEQX has a website. For some reason I can imagine asking station owners there, "Hey - do you have a website?" And they'd just look at me like I was the biggest loser idiot (which is a big fat der duh anyway). These people down there don't have time for a website, everyone's out milking cows and crap all day long. Just play the damn songs.

I like the billboards for KEQX. It's says "HARD COUNTRY" in black letters, and there's a black drawing of a Jesse James-like head with a bandana around the mouth, or something. Man, I was driving about 70 mph past it, maybe more if no cops are reading this. I had to pay attention to potential critters on the road, dash lights and signals and buzzers and various plastic electronic distractions, wife talking about buying a new house, etc.

Whatever was on the KEQX billboard, it was deathly serious about non-crap country.

Let me tell you something right here and now: Back-to-back-to-back radio stations like those don't exist in America execpt in this fine state. And even in this fine state you'll be hard-pressed to find great country radio like you can find in and around DFW. We're blessed to have it and we're blessed to have the great musicians and shows to go along with it.

KTFW is the stone-cold nuts. Gotta frequency for KEQX??? With no website, it's hard to find, and I don't want to take a chance on landing on something playing Big and Rich.

PS This is beef country, son, not dairy.

Man, sorry. It's 89.7 and it's not the most powerful station around. But it's a good one if you're down there.

Yeah, I know this is beef country. But Stephenville is so proud of their dairy cows they put one on a pole downtown and it stuck in my head. <img src="http://static.flickr.com/44/165850400_f79646f258_o.jpg">

Dang...I had no idea. That's fascinating. I've driven thru Erath Co. a million times, and never seen a single dairy farm. Or maybe those feedlots are dairy farms. Or maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about.

Hey guys, we at Hard Country appreciate your comments. I'm a new DJ on staff at 897, but the people and owners of this station are far a few between to find. The other DJ's and staff members know their music and we try to keep our reputation as true authentic and genuine country music. Believe me, before i came to 897, in Stephenville the cowboy capital of the world, i couldn't find a station worth listening to that played true Hard country as 897 did. So again, thank you and if you're in the area of Stephenville, Clifton, Commanche, Granbury, Dublin, or Hico be sure to tune those radios to Hard Country 89.7. You can catch my own radio show m-f from 12-1 during you lunch hour for the Ol' Time Gospel Hour. We appreciate comments like ya'lls! Take care.
