Tick Tock

Posted By Blair Lovern in Keep It Country on June 28, 2006

I just finished looking at my Kit-Cat Klock, which said it's about 2:14 a.m. I am a night owl. Sometimes this is fun. Sometimes this hurts in the morning.

It's just that I happened to read this story about a cool honky tonk photo exhibition in Amsterdam. After I thought, how in the hell did you find this, I thought, what in the hell is Amsterdam doing with this stuff? This is the sort of thing Keep It Country wants to see, and Keep It Country ain't going to Amsterdam in the near or distant future. I did read it was also in Washington, D.C. until September. But only something like the strong lure of somehow getting several suitcases full of legally-acquired money, with no questions whatsoever from any party involved, will pull me in the direction of our nation's sweet capital by September.

Here's a link to the Honky Tonk exhibition itself and book, which came out a few years ago. I don't recall other travelling honky tonk photo shows, but am I the Grand American Recaller? No.

I emailed the photographer's people (I say that because if the photographer actually e-mails me back I will eat my new Frisco RoughRiders hat, and that's OK because Kroger has had some kind of deal for a while in which you can get a free hat with a ticket and we have four of them already) to see if this exhibition will ever, or did, make it to DFW or Texas, which is the cradle of America's classic honk and tonk.

Henry Horenstein is the photographer. You are allowed to email his people and ask, too. I'm not special. But if I hear anything I'll let you know. And if you hear anything just let me know.

By the way, on the contact page, the Afterimage Gallery in Dallas is listed. They don't have an e-mail address, just a phone number. It is now 2:22 a.m. and I'm going to guess no one will answer the phone if I call. Then again, who knows? Hold on, let me try and just see what happens for the hell of it. I'll put on Simon And Garfunkel's "The Boxer" while I'm away.

"I am just a poor boy and my storys seldom told,

"I've squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises

"All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear

"And disregards the rest, hmmmm..."

Nope, I got the machine. Fancy that. Well, at least you have a new song stuck in your head now, suckers! HAHAHAHAH-*COUGH* *HACK*

hehe-*COUGH!*

ugh.

Speaking of S&G, you know that Paul Simon is coming to Dallas on 7/21, right? yes, I'm sure you did. Anyway, I'm from DC, you know, Blair, so just have texasgigs reach into those deep pockets and buy us a coupla tickets - We'll pay them back with fine journalism and cutting-edge stories about our nation's capital. (Why Did My Favorite Deli Close?) (Did You Know They Opened up a New Ikea Around Here?) and (Wow, Look at That!) are just some examples of the gold we could bring.
