Mr. I Know Where He Is was just featured in USA Today, which is cool. Nothing earth-shattering there, but I like what he says about Texas: "There's a culture of supporting live music here that allows us to get our act together and form our own identity while making a living. The artist development is already done thanks to the paying public of Texas."
In general this state has been, is and I hope will forever be important to American music. Specifically, Texas is about the only place left on earth that still makes country music - and if that is a sentence that makes you spit out your beer, get over it and/or get another beer.
Mr. Wherever He Is is on his way up, yes. Just hope he doesn't reach the level of Kenny Rogers, who has a new album coming out Tuesday and who I just read about after reading the Ingram story.

Kenny, according to this story, expanded "country music's audience and paving the way for megastars like Garth Brooks."
Gee, thanks, Kenny.
"It's not how many [people] you please," Rogers says in that linked story. "It's how few you offend, and how many people recognize you in the process."
I'm not a big and/or small fan of offending people, but is that really what country music (or any other music) is about, or is that how to get a $10 million house and five marriages?

I'm a long-time fan of Jack Ingram, and most of me is happy for him - how many of us get to make money doing what we love? But today, I purchased his latest CD at Target. TARGET, for crying out loud. Their music section is the musical equivalent of Tiger Beat (I know there are some of you out there that know what I'm talking about!) I had a minor crisis of conscience over how WRONG that seemed (but I got over it when I discovered it was on sale!). At least I'm fairly certain I'll never see a Honchie CD gracing the shelves of Target...

Yeah, but what does it SOUND like?
Does it sound like Jack, or a record label suit?
That's the true test.
