Important Bathroom Information II

Posted By Blair Lovern in Keep It Country on May 1, 2006

Below is from today's Chicago Sun-Times, drooling over the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill tour, with bathroom references added by me. I couldn't see this show when they come to Dallas even if I wanted to, now that I know what's underneath the stage. I don't know why the reviewer didn't subscribe to full disclosure:

"Is there anything Tim McGraw and Faith Hill can't do (in the bathroom)?

"Only they know for sure. What the rest of us can attest to with certainty is that they can make some of the best country-rock music in the business. Proof positive -- their sold-out "Soul II Soul 2" opening night concert spectacular Friday night at the Allstate Arena, where 16,000 fans were treated to nearly three hours of uninterrupted country music (thanks to the bathroom), Tim and Faith-style.

"In this, their third tour together (they first toured back in 1996, and then in the 'Soul II Soul' tour in 2000, which became one of the highest grossing tours of the year), the couple, who are Mr. and Mrs. in real life, proved they can present an arena show with the best of the biggest bands around -- in any genre. Their massive in-the-round staging, resembling a cross with a circle in its center (and a bathroom underneath) was genius in that it allowed for both Faith's band and McGraw's outstanding Dancehall Doctors (one of the best backup bands in country music) to be set up for the duration, eliminating the need for a break (thanks to the bathroom) to reconfigure the musicians' equipment. There was no opening act, no intermission (thanks to the bathroom), just one seamless production, high on the hits and loaded with some pretty cool theatrical effects.

"The couple began the night by ascending from beneath the center stage (where the bathroom is) much like Venus rising from the sea. Starting off slow and sweet with 'Like We Never Loved at All,' their latest duet, the two -- Hill dressed casually in slacks and polo shirt and McGraw in his trademark black hat, T-shirt and black jeans -- didn't even look at each other for the entire song. At opposite ends of the stage's transepts, the two performed as one, until McGraw disappeared back into the depths (to the bathroom).

"It was Hill's turn at a solo set, and with little or no idle chatter between songs, she charged valiantly through some of her biggest hits, including 'Mississippi Girl,' 'The Way You Love Me,' 'This Kiss' and the hauntingly beautiful 'Stealing Kisses.' Her set became part country hoe-down, part revival meeting, part rock concert, and by the time she got to 'Take Another Piece of My Heart' to end the nearly 90-minute set, Hill just beamed that golden smile of hers and disappeared underneath the stage (to the bathroom) as the crowd exploded with applause.

"With just a minor technical glitch, it was time to segue into the McGraw half of the evening, as the two re-emerged from beneath its center (where the bathroom is), this time seated back-to-back (on the toilet) encircled by a massive white mesh veil. They never once faced each other but made beautiful music together, including 'Let's Make Love,' one of their biggest hits as a duo.

"Then it was time for McGraw to get down to business (in the bathroom). With the Mrs. gone from the stage, (in the bathroom), McGraw set the tone for his solo set with 'Real Good Man,' and he never looked back. The hits kept coming ('Where the Green Grass Grows,' 'Don't Take the Girl,' 'Just to See You Smile'), the crowd kept on roaring with delight. One of the best moments came in the form of 'My Little Girl,' McGraw's beautiful love song from a father to a daughter from the upcoming film 'Flicka' in which the sexy country singer stars. As the proud papa of three little girls, it was clear this one came directly from his heart (via the bathroom).

"In the end, the couple reunited, (after using the bathroom), this time finally facing each other to have some fun with the guitar-infused 'Shotgun Rider,' the omni-romantic 'It's Your Love,' and finally, the tender ballad 'I Need You,' which ended the evening on the gentlest of notes.

"The couple played through Sunday at the arena, chalking up three more sold-out shows in the first full week of their 48-city tour. They're two of the most powerful stars in country music, and this current production only proves there's pretty much nothing that Faith Hill and Tim McGraw can't do when it comes to making beautiful music (in the bathroom)."
