Weekend Roundup

Keep It Country

Published: May 19, 2006

Here's your country and your alt-country Weekend Roundup.

Checking the schedule you'll notice Clay McClinton, son of Delbert, at Love and War in Plano on Saturday. Clay is touring in support of his first CD, Out of the Blue. Father and son wrote a pair of songs for the CD, and the overall sound of is an amalgamation of honkytonkishbluesrockstuff that's hard to pin down. But, basically, who the hell cares? Clay lists Tom Waits as one of his favorite songwriters. I would have to say that Mr. Waits is one of my favorites, too. But (again), basically, who the hell cares?

If you miss Clay this time around, he'll be back in town May 29, June 2 and June 3.

By the way, compare this photo of Clay from his CD:

to this one of Bigfoot from his CD:

Someone - I don't know who - is a total ripoff artist.

Billy Joe Shaver, Eleven Hundred Springs and Trampled by Turtles will be at the Granada on Friday. TXT (I just made up that abbreviation to play the role of someone who wants to be in the cool crowd, yet doesn't know if that abbreviation is actually used, therfore risking my entire cool, but false, identity on that lack of knowledge) is a bluegrass band based in Minnesota and has "a nice mix of pretty harmonies and broken strings," according to their website.

After the BJS/1100/TXT show, three members of Eleven Hundred Springs - aka Orange Blossom Spaceship - will be at Sunset Bar & Grille to entertain the public even more.

HKYI DJ Dallas Wayne and Sunny Sweeney are giving a free show at Bill's Records on Sunday. I predict that show will be 44.3% honk and 55.7% tonk.

Actor John Corbett will be opening up the porch at Suede Bar & Grill on Saturday. On his website it says: "John Corbett asks one favor: Listen to the music first." And I must say that Mr. Corbett does not suck. He's apparently taking the music career serious (I'm playing the role of someone who doesn't know adverbs.) Suede is opening its rooftop patio with this show and it's free - WITH FREE DRINKS from 6-8 p.m. So I mean, c'mon - what the hell.

I did not see, however, anything about on Mr. Corbett's site about what the hell Bigfoot was doing in their publicity photos.
