Pete Rose of country (minus the gambling and lying problem)

Posted By Blair Lovern in Keep It Country on September 19, 2006

Some news floating around about the great Mr. George Strait being Billboard's all-time leader for No. 1 country hits.

But that's like country music's Pete Rose (minus the gambling and lying problem) having passed Hank Aaron in 1982. There's still country music's Ty Cobb (minus the being a total prick part) in front of him. Below is courtesy the new Country Aircheck magazine, which you can only get in glorious pdf now:

"This is Strait’s 53rd career No. 1, taking into consideration all current and past major trade publication charts. This puts Strait two behind the all-time No. 1 leader, Conway Twitty. And, once Strait passes Conway, he will most likely set a record that will never be broken -- especially given the present Country single/chart environment in which an artist barely gets two complete singles per year."

Todd Maternowski, says:

If Garth has so many friends in low places, shouldn't he be the Eddie Gaedel of country?

Blair Lovern, says:

Eddie Gaedel is the Little Jimmy Dickens of baseball, but since he could also be Garth the other way around, I say we can have both.
