I've noticed a disturbing trend of late, if'n you take trend to mean something that somebody like me with a place to publish sees more than once.
Fake Alamos are becoming the bane of North Texas.
I first noticed the phenomenon at the Gaylord Texan.
At least they did a good job of "aging" the facade. But grampa hanging over the balcony scratching himself and drinking his morning Folgers can kinda ruin the image. But, to be fair to the Gaylord folk, they are catering to touristas and conventioneers.
Then, when checking out the details on tonight's Charlie Daniels Band / Eleven Hundred Springs show at Silverado Ranch, I was dismayed to see that this new place, which is rapidly becoming a major force in bringing great country and Americana shows to town, has a stage designed to look like -- you guessed it -- the Alamo.
Little known fact-- Davey Crockett's corpse actually got eaten by a giant armadillo. Very sad.
People, this is embarassing. This is why we have a rap for lacking an indigenous culture. We wish to represent our City with icons of San Antone. Even simple generic Texana would be more fitting. Or a stage adorned with a fake Reunion Tower. Or an amusements area made to look like a fake Fair Park. (Or better yet, at the real thing.)
But, music purveyors who want us to remember the Alamo -- keep it real. Add a statue of Ozzy Osbourne whizzing on your faux monument, and I'll shut my yap.

Just wait (10 or 20 more years) till Dallas gets the Mayor Miller / D Magazine Memorial Bridges to Nowhere! Then we'll have our own indigenous culture (as long as you ignore the fact that they were designed by a Spaniard (or his interns.))
