Too much eclecticism
Posted By Mike Orren in The One That's Not About Music on February 8, 2006
I've droned on in this blog about wanting to see more eclectic, cross-genre musical performances.
I'm watching the Grammys right now, because I was too lazy to turn the channel after Sly Stone's woefully short cameo in the middle of the commercial for the tribute album the tribute to him during the Grammys.
Herbie Hancock is currently playing piano for Christina Aguilera as she caterwhauls her way through the American Idol Remix of Leon Russell's classic "Song for You."
I take it all back.
Please make it stop. Someone call Jack Bauer and get him to diffuse the bomb that most assuredly must be under Herbie's seat.
Please.

Whenever the Grammys are on, I go to extreme lengths to avert my eyes in case I accidently catch a glimpse of the telecast. Awards shows in general are worthless, but the Grammys are the most worthless of the lot.

I must agree somewhat with Gary's comments. Way back I used to avoid all award shows other than the Grammys since they had all become platforms to advance a political agenda rather than a place to graciously accept an award from your peers. Then the Grammys also became a political platform for musicians to tell the rest of us how we should live, and it got scratched from the list as well. I watched the Tivo'd (Tivoed???) episode of 24 from this week instead.

Gorillaz rule. My wife and I cannot see eye-to-eye regarding Kelly Clarkson... Had no idea she lived 15 minutes from me though...
