The Zeppelin award

Posted By Mike Orren in The One That's Not About Music on March 24, 2006

The word "Zeppelin" appears on this site 65 times. That's because virtually every hard rock band thinks they sound like Led Zep.

Gary is in charge of quality control on the band pages. A great, albeit, minor example of why we don't let bands directly edit their pages is the fact that today was the first time a band submitted something to us with "Zeppelin" spelled correctly.

Bands have claimed they sound like:

  • Zepplin (most common)

  • Zeplin

  • Zepelin

  • Zeppilin

  • Zeppalin

C'mon kids. Know your history.

And congratulations to Decades, the winner of the Zeppelin prize for spelling. * They got it right.

(*Honorable mention for Swan Song, who spell it correctly, since it's part of their extended name.)

And why illustrate this post with a gratuitous Rhett Miller shot? Because Kate Mackley captured him reading a Jimmy Page sex scene from Pamela des Barres I'm With the Band. And there's nothing better than envisioning Rhett talking about sex with Jimmy Page to creep you out on a Friday afternoon.

Technical correction: typically, the word "Zeppelin" appears in the Influences section.

I think I've corrected all the misspellings, but there might still be some out there.
