Transparency n’ Traffic

Posted By Mike Orren in The One That's Not About Music on May 6, 2006

Back in January, we set some some benchmarks that we felt we needed to hit to be successful this year. Key among them was to have the site tracking at 500,000 pageviews per month by June.

Our April stats:

  • 221,649 visits (+41%)
  • 1,303,692 user pageviews (+36%)
  • 5 pageviews/visit (-20%)
  • 7.3 minutes/visit (-15%)
  • 9,390 downloads (+41%)
  • 60,748 referrals (+64%)
  • 812 registered users (+53%)
  • 642 new user comments (+60%)

Now obviously, the Mavs contest had a big impact on our traffic -- It accounted for about 175,000 of those pageviews. And I'm pleased to say that it looks like more than a third of the folks drawn in by the contest have hung around and become regular users.

So, even without the Mavs traffic, we broke 1 million monthly pageviews in our fourth month after the relaunch. Outside of major market dailies, I can't imagine that any strictly local site has ever done that.

And the fun stuff:
