I love it when a plan comes together

Posted By Mike Orren in The One That's Not About Music on September 18, 2006

With our new pretense of being a "real company," we've just done a bit of office decoration that I've had in mind for almost four years. I'm an old newsie at heart, and I grew up on images of newsrooms adorned with clocks showing the times in cities all over the world. You can kinda make out what I mean in this Mary Tyler Moore shot:

At Pegasus News, we have the same thing in our lobby, with a hyperlocal twist:

Here's a detail.

16 clocks in all, representing various DFW communities, all set to the same time. (We'll get the second hands synchronized when we switch for the end of daylight savings time.)

It's a reminder to our team that covering the happenings in our neighborhoods should be every bit as important and sexy as covering New York, Rome, Paris and London.

This makes me ridiculously happy.

This is awesome. Are you the sole brainchild of this brilliance?

Thanks, y'all. To answer your question, Chad, yeah this is solidly my bit of lunacy. I originally tried a variant of the idea when I was publisher of Texas Lawyer. I was watching "Network" as we were moving our offices and the idea clicked. But, there wasn't a good wall for it in our new space (something of which I think my colleagues were secretly glad.) That version was different cities around Texas set to the same time.

But I think the original idea came from a loooong night of Patron shots at Primo's back when I worked at D. And that one would have been similar to the product you see here.

I really feel like a geek, but every time I look at that wall I smile like a Cheshire cat.

This is fun...

Carrollton clock looks slowest by about 12 seconds. They need to stop living in the past.

Did Wilmer get a clock? Or Blue Mound? Or, my favorite, DISH?
