Check it out. I'm not going to take sides, but this demonstrates one of the major reasons we feel so strongly about allowing open comments on every piece of content on the site - author accountability.
Thanks for the comment ShielaS - I'm anxiously awaiting a response from the author.

It looks to me like Mr. Allen "updated" his original post this morning (according to the "last updated" timestamp) without bothering to respond.

Not so, Matt. I updated the story by changing the photo and updating the tease to note Sheila's comment. Thomas can't update the story without our help unless he posts in the comments.

I didn't get the photo used with this story. It looks like a child with Down Syndrome playing which is no relation to this story. I guess the link is that the child is "spinning" around, but I don't think it works. You might as well run a shot of a woman doing a "spinning" class. Can you get a photo of the school or run the distrct logo?

Appears the journalism students got some good editorial practice. Well written ladies and gentlemen.

Kathryn, can't say I disagree that the photo (which I posted) wasn't ideal, but I don't know where you got the Downs idea from...
See, I woke up earlier than I should have this morning and saw the original photo on the story was a Pinnochio image. I didn't think it was appropriate, given that a.) the opinions in the story were the writer's, and not necessarily ours and b.) the accusation was of spin, rather than outright lying.
So I looked for a good image of the school or the LISD logo, but they didn't have anything of appropriate size/quality to fill our lead space. So I went looking for spin images and came up with a Sit n' Spin, one of my personal favorite toys as a kid.
I agree that the connection may have been a little tenuous, but that's how we got there.
And this episode of "Behind the Curtain" has been brought to you by the good folks at Pegasus News...

The best comment ever explains the rules.
According to Ms Stanmore’s reasoning no outsiders may report on odd events at large institutions. So only members of Colorado’s New Life Church can report or complain about meth / gay sex binges by Pastor Ted Haggard and only contributors to Ralph Reed’s Christian Coalition may investigate or report on Tom DeLay’s diversion of funds to Jack Abramhoff’s Choctaw Casino lobbying efforts.
This is a novel and interesting position. Contrary to about 300 years of journalistic tradition but, hey, we’re in a new century and a new medium. Let’s make up the rules as we go. First new rule: always discredit the messenger. Second: always ignore the objective claims of fact.
Helicopters? Closed streets? Convictions of Lancaster teenager? So what? Facts don’t matter. It’s the interpretation of facts that really counts. And any interpretation (or revelation) of facts by any and all persons other than those in position of authority within the district, the PTA, or selected “boosters” of the system must automatically be rejected.
Those are the rules. (1) Do NOT speak truth. (2) Do NOT question authority.
And the last rule is, (3) If you break rule (1) or (2) , expect to be roundly condemned.

Except for the spelling, grammar, and syntax; it's all very persuasive.

Haha, ouch, Steve.
Although, I'd argue that a comma and not a semicolon would better fit between "syntax" and "it's."

Lancaster ISD Trustee Rick Glover resigned a while back, just AFTER the point at which his vacated seat could be filled by the election this May.
Now, one week BEFORE the election, the remaining board members consider appointing a new fellow trustee to hold that seat.
The author of "the best commment ever" is the sole contender for that appointment.
Apparently those long hours of reading books to pre-kindergarteners and cheering for the football team uniquely qualify a citzen to help manage a $40 million dollar budget and balance the district's checkbook.
