The TRE rocks the house

Fact: I am a ridiculously impatient driver
Fact: I needed to go to Fort Worth today to speak at a luncheon.
Fact: I also needed to catch a conference call and be online this morning.
So, I took my first ride on the Trinity Railway Express.
April dropped me at White Rock Station and I deposited $4.50 into a ticket machine; rode to Union Station and switched to the TRE. Nice three-level train and the top level has tables where you can set up your laptop. I have an EVDO card, so Internet access was no problem.
Comfortable ride. Took the call and the only problem was the need to mute when I wasn't talking so the train whistle wasn't a distraction.
Whole thing took (is taking) about 30% longer than driving, but I'm totally productive -- probably more so than if I was in the office.
I loves me some TRE. So long Tom Landry Expressway.

Now imagine that same experience on a high-speed train to Austin, or Houston--better than a wider highway? better than a Southwest Airlines cattle car?
