A letter from Kay Granger

Square Pegs

Published: December 5, 2007

Not sure when/how I got on the mailing list for Congressional Representative from the 12th district, Kay Granger, but I did and am now graced by her weekly emails. In an effort to keep you up to date on the happenings of our elected officials, I will post from time to time the emails that are sent to me. As such, I take no responsibility for what she writes and am merely copy/pasting. Feel free to draw your own conclusions from the following:

"Dear Friends [a little presumptive....]

Recent reports out of Iraq show positive results and a sharp decline in American causalities. After months of increased violence and a call for a change of strategy in Iraq at the beginning of 2007, our troops have turned the tide and I am proud of their results and commitment.

The surge in troops has allowed the Iraqi people to stand up against al Qaeda in Iraq and begin to take back their communities. Areas once considered lost to Al Qaeda in Iraq, like Anbar Province, are now considered model areas of success that are being used in other parts of Iraq.

Below are some statistics I would like to share with you since the surge became operational in June. These are promising figures and the results are undeniable.

· U.S. Casualties are the lowest in 18 months

· Terrorist attacks in Iraq are down 55 percent since June

· Civilian fatalities have decreased 60 percent in Iraq since June

· Iraqi Security Force causalities are down 40 percent since June

Guided by the principle of “return on success,” the United States will bring 5,700 troops home by the end of the year as a result of the progress made.

While none of us want our men and women in harm’s way longer than necessary, I hope we can reflect on the dedication and proven results our Armed Forces have shown over the past year. Their efforts have given a renewed hope of success and they deserve nothing but the best care when they return.

During this holiday season, over 200,000 of them are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. We owe them the funding, support and commitment that they so rightfully need and deserve.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger"

Thank god that our causalities are declining.

Now only if we could do something about people dying...

I'm glad the Congresswoman drank her Kool Aid before writing that. It is the only way to stomach it.

I stood on an I-35 overpass on Jan 1, 2007 with a sign that said "3000 dead. How many more?". I am wondering sadly if that number is going to reach 4000 on Jan 1, 2008.

For some reason all that lipstick just doesn't seem to make the pig any prettier.
