Attention all Shutterbugs

Square Pegs

Published: December 5, 2007

In case you haven't noticed, here at Pegasus News our goal is to get the most in depth coverage, down to your very own backyard. We are aiming to provide in-depth visual coverage as well, and that's where you come in. We need you, our users, to help us be the eyes of DFW. We would like to invite everyone out there to join our Pegasus News Flickr Group and contribute to the Pegasus News photo pool so we can still offer visuals with each and every story in your neck of the woods. Join our ranks of Citizen Photojournalists!

For participation we do have a few requests: Please submit photos to the group under a Creative Commons license. Also please submit the photos with a caption and (more importantly) your photo credit in the caption and tag them Pegasus News.

Happy shooting!

Ehh.. Why creative commons? All that will do is allow someone else to potentially profit off the images, while the photographer receives nothing.

For example: Someone wants to submit a picture for PegasusNews to use for free, but would not want their photograph showing up in a Virgin Mobile advertisement-- under Creative Commons there is nothing they can do to stop them or receive compensation for the photo.

Yes there is, Clay. You can set for creative commons but forbid commercial use. (In our context, it is considered "news," loosely as we may construe that term.)

http://creativecommons.org/about/lice...

So it would put this image on your license badge:

I don't know how to add photos to a pool.

clay, you'd probably be interested in the creative commons variation of attribution, non-commercial, no derivatives.

pavel, just go to the link in the story and join the peg news flickr group. then, from your photostream you can tag an image and send it to the pool using the button "send to group" directly above the image.

I was aware of the non-commercial restriction, but there is still no way to only license the photo just to Pegasus under creative commons.

I don't understand why Pegasus would require a creative commons license instead of just having the photographer agreeing to release the photo to Pegasus.

Something along the lines of: 'By submitting photographs to this site you agree to allow Pegasus News to publish, print or use the photograph in the following ways...'

It's not just commercial use that I was speaking of-- but just that I would want to control who was using my photographs.

Ah-- So the way to do that Clay would be to submit to us via this form:

http://www.pegasusnews.com/contentpar...

We're just limited in our ability to dictate what tagging on Flickr "means" in a legal sense.

But if you submit directly, that gives us nonexclusive rights to use the work, but doesn't give rights to anyone else. Make sense?
