Egyptian blogger gets 4 years in prison for speaking out online

Warning: the following blog post is not at all funny.
Sorry to be a downer, but Chad forwarded me this article about a blogger in Eqypt who has received a prison sentence for speaking out against Islam and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the internet. One of the few free domains left for some countries is now becoming highly regulated and grounds for unreasonable arrests and inexplicably long prison sentences. Scary stuff.

It's a good thing that our blogs and articles are written in the U.S. because this staff would be locked away for life were we somewhere like Egypt. Then again, how far are we really from this happening here?

Joni, says:
I think freedom of speech is one thing here in America, but when Americans abuse this right, maybe they SHOULD be locked away. Is demoralizing society an act of freedom of speech? Then the networks/magazines/and all commercials would be guilty.
I think there should be some censoring on what is presented to society so our children aren't running around desensitized by violence and lashing out at anyone and everyone who gets in their way. ~joni

It's in Arabic, so, good luck. But a lot of the 287 comments are in English, Italian, etc.
