Speaking of rain, WOW, did we have some rain!”

Nothing like the threat of extreme weather to get local news crews all hilariously a-twitter. The quotes below were taken from Saturday's 6 p.m. local news reports:

-Channel 21 metereologist Garry Seith: "Mother Nature has taken her toll on the friendly skies."

-Channel 8's Pete Delkus: "We're going to have icing issues."

-Channel 5's Steve MacLaughlin: Between 6:44 and 6:46 p.m., said the word "freezing" 18 times.

-Delkus and channel 8 anchor Shelley Slater: She: "This is NOT going away." He: "This is JUST the beginning." She: "Tomorrow morning. That's the crucial time."

-Channel 21's Kaushal Patel and Chris Salcedo, responding to a report about people shopping for food: Patel: "You know, that is the best plan. Stay inside the house and eat." Salcedo: "Yeah, you'll never complain about that!"

-Channel 21 reporter at the DFW airport: "The airlines recommend that you call and check ahead of time."

-Channel 8's Steve McCauley, apologizing for possibly making the weather seem worse than it is: "I want to err on the other side of the coin."

-Channel 8's Delkus: "Look at the good news – we've had a lot of rain!"

I, for one, welcome our arctic overlords...

Gotta add this: Was just watching CBS 11 where they are preempting Sunday Morning (grr) and talking to their head photographer at the anchor desk. He's wearing a scarf and ballcap so we know he's been outside. And they are showing video of ice and rain dripping off trees, cars crashing, general mayhem. And it all has the same big caption:

RAW VIDEO

I guess I misunderstood what that meant, 'cos I was expecting something a little racier.

Just checked my unofficial (and proud of it) Old Lake Highlands backyard rain gauge, and it shows about 3.35" since the start of this - ah - period of wetness.

And it's raining hard again now, so my official dire prediction is: the potential exists for an additional quantity of rain to add to this already year-high record total.

Oh, as to the temp: according to my unofficial back porch thermometer, it's about 34 degrees.

being a true weather channel junkie, i LOVE when the news is overshadowed by cold front/warm front wars, and talk of sleet vs freezing rain is so much more interesting than anything the Bill Parcells is saying these days. lets have MORE talk of weather!!

I enjoy watching reporters standing outside in the elements, typically near some kind of icy bypass, freezing their butts off, all to prove that yes, it really is cold and wet and/or icy outside. I bet the reporters love those assignments.

Most of the "reporters" at channel 8 just broadcast from the company parking lot. They have neither balls nor brains.

The Beach Boys with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Beach Boy trivia: Though surfing was a prominent theme in many of the Beach Boys' early songs, Dennis Wilson was the only original member who surfed. "Kokomo" was the Beach Boys' first hit in 20 years and ended up being their biggest selling single. Paul McCartney once said that "God Only Knows" was the most beautiful pop song ever written.
