Brent Best as Guitar Hero

Square Pegs

Published: July 22, 2007

Lately, our household has become addicted to the video game Guitar Hero II (link plays unrequested audio). It and Dance Dance Revolution are the only games I've ever been able to get April excited about.

One thing that GH2 addicts will understand -- It changes the way you listen to music. There are certain characteristics that make a good GH2 song, and you start listening to songs and judging how they would play in the game.

Driving around Friday, I came to the conclusion that Slobberbone's "Haze of Drink" (off the album Barrel Chested) might well be the perfect GH song.

Listen for yourself and decide.

Sidenote: I do love The Drams too, but damn I do miss me some Slobberbone.

Don't know anything about GH2, but Slobberbone is still one of my favorite jams, even after all these years. sigh

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
