Will the Edge please stop playing (new) Korn?

Posted By Erin Rice in Square Pegs on July 30, 2007

I hate to break this to all of you, but new songs from Korn are just plain awful.

102.1 The Edge is not the only station guilty of propagating the blasphemy that is new Korn. There are several stations across the U.S. clinging to that last shred of yesteryear, praying that the Korn they once knew would peek its braided-head up through the muck that has been spewed since (and some would say including) the Issues album. As much as the Edge is not solely to blame, today whilst driving in to the office I heard the acoustic version of "Freak on a Leash" from MTV's Unplugged sessions, featuring Amy Lee from Evanescence, and I snapped.

I can't possibly imagine that if Korn came onto the scene today with their current repertoire of songs, they would get any airplay. Those of us who hold dear the original Korn album, Life is Peachy, and Follow the Leader, feel a fresh slap in the face every time we're subjected to what the band has now become. They used to be edgy, different, and pounding. What we have now is an overly produced, disappointingly mainstream, watered-down Korn derivative.

To be fair, I gave one last attempt at listening to the new Korn single that is featured on the album being released tomorrow, "Evolution." To be blunt, it's killing my soul.

In conclusion, as a favor to those of us who don't want the visage of the original Korn we knew and continue to love forever ruined, Edge, please stop playing new Korn songs.

Thank you.

And now for a look back on better times:

Please add the song (and music video for) "Twisted Transistor" into your "WTF" pile:

Nope, haven't needed to wonder.. Korn has ALWAYS been a horrible band. The wonderment has been why they even had fans in the first place!

Teresa Gubbins, says:

i think they had fans because their stature as underdogs and victims of abuse spoke to people who felt like outcasts. i think they are the quintessential example of the band that wasn't built for/couldn't handle success.

Listening to the dead air of the Russ Martin show on 105.3 beats listening to the crap they play on the Edge now.

I'd rather not relive my middle school and high school years. I can only take so many attempts by Metallica and Korn to make more money.
