Getting in compliance

Posted By Mike Orren in Square Pegs on June 27, 2007

We received a telegram this morning from the Media Hype Union informing us that we were in danger of losing access to The Machine for our failure to note:

A young woman named Paris Hilton (clearly a pseudonym) was recently released from jail in California.

A computer company named after a piece of fruit is releasing a new telephonic device called the IPhone on Friday. We hear that it connects to the Interwebs and plays video. Crazy!

Resume normalcy...

Another piece of Iphone hysteria...

It has now been blessed by America's official man-on-the-street quote machine:

I've always hated the ubiquitous "random guy commenting on story" quote in traditional news stories. This guy's the poster child.

Video of said Greg Parker, going for that "just-woke-up-after-sleeping-outside-in-a-chair" look:

Per This Packer Parker camped out to be the first to get what others will be able to stroll in and buy two weeks later. You know you're getting old when I can recall when they waited in line for 12 hours to be the first to buy the "new cutting edge" Casio 'Credit Card Calculator' at Neiman Marcus for $100.

The really funny thing is that there is no predicted supply problem with the iPhone. You don't need to stand in line for days to guarantee you will get one the very first day they come out. I understand waiting in line is just this guy's passion, but I've been seeing craigslist postings for people who are trying to sell their spot in line. For a product where supply outweighs demand, that just sounds like a waste of money to me.
